GET STARTED MEETING

Hello all!
It's been a while since I have been able to post! Just wanted to share with you that I attended the Get Started Meeting last night in Chagrin Falls. The meeting was very informative and gave many details on the event. I think once we make it to the starting line, we will have a blast!! The most eye opening part of the evening for me was that there was a girl about my age (38) maybe a little younger that was sitting in front of me....when the meeting leader asked if there were any survivors in the room, this girl raised her hand! I was absolutely blown away by how young she was!! I had hit a slump in my training, fell off my treadmill the other night (graceful, I am not!!) and am dealing with some pretty nasty blisters....but to see this girl and know what she went through has steeled my resolve to keep going!! We are truly doing a good thing!
I also had the honor of sitting next to the woman who raised the most money last year. I think she raised $23,000.00 herself! Her goal this year is $25,000.00!! Her advice....ask everyone and ask big!! 60 miles is a huge deal and you have the right to ask!!
Stay strong, train hard and have fun!!

My first BIG walk

Tuesday was the most incredibly beautiful day; mid 70's, sunny, perfect. "My men" were all out of the house attending a hockey game so that left me alone to enjoy the sunshine. So I DVRed Idol (can't miss that little David Archuleta)and headed out the door to walk. By the time I got back it was two hours and 8.5 miles later.

I thought to myself that was a breeze, bring on the 60 miles I can handle it! (return to couch and click on Idol)

Now flash forward to this morning....I am stiff, sore and pretty sure that I need an emergency hip replacement. My shins, heretofore a part of my body I did not even know could hurt, feel like they have been hit with a sledge hammer and I have twin baby blisters-one for each foot.

So I admit I will actually have to get into shape, even train for this event. So much for sitting around the TV at night. I'll miss you little Archuleta, you too Randy and Simon. Paula-not so much.

Message from Maria

First of all, thanks to Lori for introducing me to the amazing world of "blogging"!! What a great way to keep in touch and let everyone know what's going on! And second, I am honored and grateful to have you as a member of the team! I was banking on your inability to say "no" : )
I am very excited about this opportunity for several reasons! First is that I will be left with, upon the completion of 60 miles, the feeling that I, personally, have done something to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer and I look forward to the sense of accomplishment that one must feel after completing something like this.
The journey to even get to the start of the walk will be a long one! One does not just go out and walk twenty miles a day, three days in a row! I have started aggressive training, my thighs are screaming in protest but I will not listen!
I am also considering a number of fundraising options to raise the minimum $2,200.00 that I need to even be allowed to walk! It would be a bummer to go through all of this training and fall short on the funds! If you are interested in helping with this part, please click on the link on the right side of this page that will take you directly to my website where you can donate!
Lastly, but most importantly, I would like to let you know that my motivation for completing this walk is my 9 year old daughter Brittany. My inspiration to keep going comes from the courage and determination of my Aunt Cherie, Aunt Linda and Aunt Gloria, each amazing survivors of breast cancer, and I dedicate this walk to the memory of my Grandmother, Beverly Valentino and my husbands mother, Yvonne Douglas; both taken away from us at very early ages by breast cancer.
Will keep you updated in the coming weeks on the status of training and fundraising efforts!

No this is not an April Fools Joke

I really have to learn to say no but I guess now is not the time to start. How could I say no to Maria when she asked me to help raise money for breast cancer research? I mean all I have to do is walk. How hard can that be?? Ummm excuse me, did you say 60 miles!???
